Fineview (often written as Fine View) is a small historic hamlet and summer community located on Wellesley Island in the St. Lawrence River within the Thousand Islands region of New York. [1, 2]
History
  • Origins: The community grew in the late 19th century largely because of neighboring Thousand Island Park's strict "no-landing-on-Sunday" rule for steamships. [1]
  • Growth: Fineview sprouted up about a mile downriver as an alternative landing spot, featuring a steamship dock, general store, cottages, and the prominent Fine View House (originally Wellesley House, renamed in 1887). The historic hotel was destroyed by a fire in 1914. [1]
  • Church: The community established the Fineview Methodist Episcopal Church in 1891, with the current Colonial Revival-style building constructed in 1908. [1]
Modern Day
  • Location: Situated near County Route 100 on Wellesley Island, close to the Thousand Islands Bridge and [Wellesley Island State Park](https://adventuresny.com/wellesley-island-state- park-fineview-ny/). [1, 2]
  • Local Staples: The area is known locally for landmarks like the Fine View Mini Mart & Liquor, which serves campers and visitors exploring the island's state parks and river channels. [1]
