GYMNASIUM OF Y.M.C.A WILL SOON BE COMPLETED Brick Work on Building was Finished at noon Today APPARATUS ALREADY HERE Work Will Be Rushed and "Gym" Will Be Ready In Thirty Days. The Y. M. C. A., members and friends will be glad to know that the wall of the new gymnasium in completed, the brick work being finished today at noon.

The work has been hampered for sometime by the lack of bricklayers and the excessive rain but the carpenters will now take charge and the building will be pushed to completion. Lumber is on the job for the trussed roof and the carpenters started work THis afternoon. After the roof is completed the flooring will be laid, running track built. after which it will only take the coat of paint to make the building complete. There will be plenty of light and ventilation in the new gymnasium.

In addition to the sixteen windows and doors there is a large transom placed over each window. The transoms will insure plenty of open ai: for those using the running track and will also be well ventilated when the track is used as a spectators gallery. The following equipment is on hand ready to be placed, one vaulting pole, a horizontal bar, a parallel bar, a jumping board, a horse, four flying rings, two trapeze rings, four mats, chest weights, medicine balls, wands and dumb bells. The boys are so anxious to use these that the large dressing room has been fitted up as a temporary gymnasium. At the opening of the gymnasium it is predicted that the membership of the association will be doubled,.

A quit claim deed to the east half of lots 98 and 99 was ordered made to Norfleet Harris. in exchange for a quit claim deed from Norflect Harris to the city for the west half of lots 98 and 99. A resolution was also passed instructing the Mayor to give the YMCA a quit claim deed to the west half of lots 98 and 99 in consideration of the sum of 850. |.

BIG GULLY BY Y.M.C.A. GRADUALLY FILLING IN 

As tin cans, broken bottles and trash of -all kinds, and during the past few days, dirt from the excavations for the Little building are being dumped into the big gully on Broad Street, by the Y. M.C. A., the road on the western side is constantly growing wider and the margin of the gully Is constantly getting closer to the Y. M. C. A. building.

In time, it is hoped, the gully will be completely filled in. The city has, from time to time, expended an aggregate of something like $40,000 in filling In and checking the gully, which could have been prevented at no appreciable cost with a little foresight years ago. It was pointed out today that 'the : first organized effort to combat the ravages of this gully, which then threatened the business section of regard in the city, was a Iittle over 25 years ago, when the citizens subscribed, something like $18,000 for the work that was placed under the direction of Col. Hardaway, who recently buil tthe $3,000,00 lock and dam at Squaw Shoals..
